Austism basics part two will build on the content from Autism Basics Part 1. This course will idenitfy tips, strategies, and explanations on what to do and what NOT to do when helping students with autism to be successful in school.

The course focuses on hiring practices to ensure new faculty, staff, and administrators are dispositionally aligned with your school's mission to include children of ALL academic abilities. The course contains examples of interview questions to include when considering new hires, who to include in the hiring process, and idenitfying protocols that ensure consistency in hiring for mission.

In this course, participants will develop a firm understanding of how standards, curriculum, and assessment align to ensure students are learning skills and content AND showing teachers in multiple ways how they have learned skills and content. Just as there are many methods of instruction, there are also many methods of assessment. Providing students a variety of ways in which to show what they have learned provides all learners with the opportunity to use their strengths to show learning. Developing and grading assessments that truly focus on the standards being taught provides teachers with the freedom and flexibility to assess learning in many ways. This course allows teachers time to reflect on common assessment practices and consider all the ways we COULD be gauging student growth and learning.

This course will help learners to gain understanding of working memory, examples of, and types of deficits associated with. They will also acquire a knowledge of the impacts of a working memory deficit and strategies to support students in a classroom setting.
